I’ve been cast adrift from all I’ve known
With only memories to call my own
I’m still reeling from those fiery skies
With images emblazoned on my mind

I’ve retreated back inside myself
Yet even there no solace I have felt
Scared to hope there might be something more
That I’ll find my way to kinder shores

Byzantium, I understand
The heartbreak of a war torn land
Watch Islands of identities
Dissolving into stormy seas

Try to clear my mind and look ahead
But I’m uncertain of the path to tread
